Living in Ithaca, NY, I am a researcher, editor, writer, translator, and sociologist. Currently I manage the editorial side of a top peer-reviewed journal. I worked extensively in the Brazilian Amazon (as a scholar-activist working to promote land rights and sustainable development for traditional peoples).
Fluent in four languages, I am available for freelance work in translating (from Portuguese, French, and Spanish into English); research (specializing in land and resource rights, conservation and communities, Latin America, traditional peoples); grant proposal writing; and editing (substantive or copy).
Grant recipient from The Pew Charitable Trusts, The Rockefeller Foundation, The Conservation and Research Foundation, and others. I’ve been a visiting fellow at UNICAMP, UFRJ, UnB, Yale University, and University of Texas-Austin. Undergraduate degree from U. Wisconsin-Madison and graduate degree from Cornell University.
Places I’ve volunteered: SPCA, Red Cross, Museum of the Earth-Ithaca, CARECEN, CASA-CALA, Lasting Links, Ecologia, Nucleoverde, Kennebunkport Conservation Trust; also volunteer member on two boards of nonprofits including one providing renewable energy systems to to community organizations (founding member), and one providing support to families of those with addiction problems.
I enjoy photography, walking my dog, kayaking, horsebackriding, gardening, and locavore gourmet cooking. I also like to play guitar and sing old Brazilian sambas. I’ve lived in five countries.
While some would like to categorize me based on a Google search that turns up that I was sued for something I did not do, I refuse to let that define me. Life is good; there is beauty all around us, and there are important things to be done.
